10 Reasons Why We Need A UN Tax Convention

Attention class!

Welcome for this free tutorial that you didn't even sign up for,

But Listen;

Grab a notepad and pen and listen

Because I hope that by the time I am done teaching you a thing or ten

If you share the notes you will have written with your respective governments,

We will be making a tax convention at the next general assembly of the UN.

Here are ten reasons why we need a UN Tax Convention.

Number 1: TO MERGE ALL THE DIFFERENT TAX TREATIES AND RULES INTO ONE

So that we have one unifying document on tax for uniformity

That cuts across every continent, region and state.

Number 2: TO CURB CROSS-BORDER TAX EVASION

See, some of these multinational entities

Have mastered the art of exploiting the disparities

In the different tax systems of different nations to reduce their tax liabilities

So they keep profiting off countries that are losing taxes

And I doubt any country is happy being a gift that keeps on giving without ever receiving its dues.

Number 3: TO COMBAT INCOMPATIBILITY

There are countries whose tax regimes are as easy as doing class assignments with ChatGPT

While there are others whose tax systems are as difficult as writing an interesting poem on why we need a UN Tax Convention,

Not to mention that some nations tax rules are as opposite

As the Republican and Democrats in US politics.

This discourages foreign investment and international trade, affecting economic development

And hinders international cooperation on tax matters due to incompatibility disagreements.

Number 4: TO ELIMINATE DOUBLE TAXATION OF MULTINATIONALS

Because of the conflict in countries' tax systems

Individuals and businesses end up being taxed twice on the same income or profits.

Now if you have ever had tax deducted from your salary

You can agree with me that the only thing worse than paying taxes

is paying them more than once!

Number 5: TO FACILITATE EXCHANGE OF TAX INFORMATION

This too can only happen with increased international cooperation

That would be birthed by a UN Tax Convention.

Number 6: TO PROMOTE INCLUSIVITY

Ever heard of the OECD?

If you haven't, the Organization for Economic Cooperation is an entity that has been primarily making the global tax rules. However, critics have often expressed concerns over limited representation of less wealthy countries

within this organization.

The United Nations on the other hand is like a religious denomination;.

It welcomes all and discourages discrimination

So a UN Tax Convention would be a better option

For fairer global participation.

Number 7: TO REDUCE COMPLEXITY.

It is no secret that the current global tax rules have many governments (and law students) struggling

with coherence because they are so complex!

That's why we honestly need a better legal infrastructure that favors simplicity

Because such universally important laws shouldn't be

Even harder than advanced trigonometry.

Number 8: TO STOP UNFAIR COMPETITION

Some countries can afford to charge little or no taxes to attract investment

Leaving less wealthy countries struggling to reduce their taxes to compete favorably

Yet they desperately need every penny.

Number 9: TO CREATE AN INCLUSIVE HUMAN RIGHTS BASED TAX BODY.

And I even have a suggestion for its name already;

The Alyce International Tax Organization.

Yes, the UN probably won't buy it,

But what's more important is that we create a tax body

Based on inclusivity and promotion of human rights for all global citizens

Through just international tax rules and systems.

Number 10: IF YOUR GOVERNMENT STILL ISN'T CONVINCED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF A UN TAX

CONVENTION ENACTMENT, REPEAT THE PRESENTATION OF THESE REASONS IN YOUR MOTHER

LANGUAGE.
