Title: Nature’s Voice: Beat Plastic Pollution – Kyengeza Parish Celebration
Organizers: Save the Children Uganda, Youth For Tax Justice Network, Nature Power (Youth Group).
Date: June 27, 2025
Location: Chemiquipe Medical Campus, Kyengeza Parish, Wakiso District, Uganda
Background
Kyengeza Parish is facing significant environmental challenges due to unsustainable practices such as charcoal production, brick burning, and agricultural expansion, which have led to extensive deforestation. An estimated 95% of households depend on firewood for cooking, creating immense pressure on local natural resources. This unsustainable exploitation has contributed to environmental degradation, prolonged dry seasons, irregular weather patterns, and a notable loss of biodiversity. As we approach World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, under the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution,” we believe it is crucial to address the intertwined issues of plastic pollution and environmental degradation in our community.
